Prayer

I love quotes so if I find one that resonates with me I’m going to hop on and share it. This means if I continue on this journey of “blogging” you will be seeing quite a few.

This morning I’m reading Ragged: Spiritual Disciplines For The Spiritually Exhausted by Gretchen Ronnevik. Yes, my totally undisciplined self bought the book 30 seconds after seeing the title. Chapter 9 is all about Prayer. All kinds of guilt rises up in association with that word. But, I don’t have time this morning to get into all my Enneagram 4 angst about it. I’ll just send up a mud~pie prayer that this will help one of you take a deep breath, know that you are not alone, and your Father loves hearing from you no matter how the words come out.

“My dear God, how stupid we people are until You give us something. Even in praying it is You who have to pray in us. I would like to write a beautiful prayer but I have nothing to do it from. There is a whole sensible world around me that I should be able to turn to Your praise; but I cannot do it. Yet at some insipid moment when I may possibly be thinking of floor wax or pigeon eggs, the opening of a beautiful prayer may come up from my subconscious and lead me to write something exalted. I am not a philosopher or I could understand these things.” ~ Flannery O’Conner A Prayer Journal

  1. Thank you ! I am so glad you are doing this blog. I so needed to read this after the news I received today and the overwhelming feelings of helplessness.
